Cookie policy

Everything this site stores on your device, item by item: who sets it, what it does, how long it lasts, and whether it needs your consent.

Working draft

The site is not public yet, and the tables below separate what runs today from what is planned. A lawyer must review this text before publication, and the tables must be re-measured in a browser at the first public release.

1. What this page covers

"Cookies" is shorthand. The law — the ePrivacy Directive in Europe, and the consent rules that follow from it — covers any storing of information on your device or reading of information already there. That includes cookies, but alsolocalStorage, sessionStorage and similar techniques. This page lists all of them.

The one thing worth knowing up front: MaxedRig sets no cookie of its own today. The only thing we write to your device is a singlelocalStorage entry recording your answer to the cookie banner.

2. The two categories that matter

Some storage is exempt from consent: what is strictly necessary to deliver the page you asked for, or to remember a choice you made. Everything else — measurement, advertising, attribution — is not exempt, and may only be written or read after you have accepted.

CategoryWhat it is forConsent
Strictly necessaryDelivering and securing the site; remembering your cookie choiceExempt — loaded on every visit
PreferencesRemembering a display setting you chose yourselfExempt where it only stores your own explicit choice
MeasurementCounting visits and reading which articles workExempt only if strictly aggregate and cookieless; otherwise consent required
AdvertisingSelecting ads, capping how often you see one, measuring clicks and installsConsent required — refused unless you accept

localStorage, first party
MaxedRig (maxedrig.com)Records your answer to the cookie banner. Two values only:accepted or declined. It is read on every page load to decide whether the banner is shown again. It contains no identifier and is never sent to us or to anyone else — it stays in your browser. No expiry in the current implementation: it stays until you change your choice or clear the site's storage. Target: 6 months —{{TO BE COMPLETED: add a 6-month expiry to the stored choice}}Strictly necessary — exempt from consent
YouTube player storage, e.g. VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, YSC,yt-player-*
third-party cookies and localStorage
Google (youtube-nocookie.com)Plays an embedded video and remembers playback settings. Nothing is loaded until you click the thumbnail: until then the video is a still image with a play button, and Google receives nothing — not even your IP address.Session to about 6 months, set by Google —{{TO BE COMPLETED: re-measure the exact items set by the player in a browser before the first public release}}Advertising and preferences — consent required, given by your click on the thumbnail
__cf_bm, cf_clearance
first-party cookies, conditional
Cloudflare, our hostDistinguishes a human from a bot, and records that you passed a security check. Set only if the request triggers Cloudflare's bot protection or a challenge; a normal visit to a static page generally sets neither.__cf_bm: 30 minutes. cf_clearance: up to 1 year —{{TO BE COMPLETED: confirm which Cloudflare security features are enabled in production}}Strictly necessary (security) — exempt from consent

That is the whole list. No advertising tag, no analytics tag and no social widget is loaded on this site today.

4. Planned, not yet deployed

We are open about where this is going: the site is funded by display advertising and by partner links, and both involve storage on your device. Nothing below runs yet. Each item will be named here, with its real duration, before it is switched on — and the non-exempt ones will not load unless you accept.

Honest about the current state

The banner stores your choice but does not yet control the loading of anything, because there is nothing non-essential to load. Before the first advertising or analytics tag goes live, the banner must actually gate it, default to refusal, and honour the Global Privacy Control signal:{{TO BE COMPLETED: implement consent enforcement, default refusal and Global Privacy Control}}.

5. Changing or withdrawing your choice

The banner appears on your first visit and offers two buttons of equal weight:Decline and Accept. Declining is one click, exactly like accepting. Your answer is written to the consent key in your browser's local storage for this site.

Because the choice lives in your browser rather than in an account, changing it means clearing it. Clearing the site data for maxedrig.comremoves the consent key, and the banner appears again on the next page load:

  • Chrome / Edge — click the icon on the left of the address bar, thenCookies and site data → Manage on-device site data → delete.
  • Firefox — click the padlock, then Clear cookies and site data.
  • Safari — Settings → Privacy →Manage website data, search for the domain, remove.
  • Mobile — same path through your browser's site settings for this domain.

A one-click control that does not require clearing storage is on the list:{{TO BE COMPLETED: add a "cookie settings" link in the footer that reopens the banner}}.

Your choice is per browser and per device. Accepting on your laptop says nothing about your phone.

6. Blocking storage in your browser

You can also refuse storage without using our banner, from your browser's own settings or with an extension. Nothing on this site requires a cookie to work: there is no account, no cart and no login, so blocking everything costs you nothing but the banner reappearing on each visit, since the record of your choice is itself what gets deleted.

Browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal are telling us you refuse the sale or sharing of your data. We will honour that signal as an opt-out — seeDo Not Sell or Share My Personal Information in the privacy policy.

8. Still to be completed

  • Advertising network, analytics provider and affiliate networks, with their real cookie names and durations
  • Exact list of items set by the YouTube player, measured in a browser
  • Which Cloudflare security features are enabled in production, and therefore which Cloudflare cookies actually appear
  • Name and duration of the affiliate click cookie set by /go/
  • Technical work: consent enforcement with default refusal, Global Privacy Control, a 6-month expiry on the stored choice, and a footer link that reopens the banner
